2018 Commonwealth Games

As beach volleyball made its debut at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Volleyball Queensland’s members, staff, and affiliates were keen to experience the action on home soil.

This event was especially sweet for VQ with State Teams Coordinator, Kylie Marshall, appointed scorer, and Damien Searle working with GOLDOC as the Beach Volleyball Technical Operations Manager.

Over six exciting days of competition, the world’s best beach volleyballers displayed their athleticism, commitment, and sportsmanship at the Coolangatta courts, providing an excellent example for VQ’s own aspiring athletes.

Facing fierce opponents throughout the competition, the Australian teams dominated with the men, comprising of Damien Schumann and Chris McHugh, taking home the gold, and the women, including Mariafe Artacho del Solar and QLD’s own Taliqua Clancy, winning the silver medal.

Volleyball Queensland also made the most of the Gold Coast based Games, hosting beach volleyball courts on the Coolangatta beach for visitors and locals to engage with the sport.
