The Australian Volleyball League (AVL) is the national indoor volleyball league for men and women. This league has developed in format over the past few years, servicing the various demands of elite men’s and women’s volleyball, drawn largely from club and state volleyball players.

The Queensland Pirates are one of the strongest teams in AVL. Both men’s and women’s teams have a history of success with the men’s team awarded the championship in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018, and the women’s team earning the 2012 championship and silver (2016) and bronze medals (2017) in subsequent years.

VA has also advised it will offer an AVL2 (Additional Tournament), on the Gold Coast from 3-5 December 2021.



The Australian Volleyball League (AVL) is scheduled October to December 2021, as a result Volleyball Queensland is planning to enter the Pirates womens and mens teams. The current AVL match schedule is;

13-14 Nov  NSW  QLD Sydney

To be considered for squad selection and/or a squad trial you are to;

Squad selections will be based on your playing background/history, performance review in current competitions and trials (if called).

As program coaches, training load, compulsory competition requirements and program costs are being resolved over July, if these prove unsatisfactory you will be able to withdraw this expression of interest before committing to the program.

AVL PIRATES – Player eoi



This application is to identify candidates who can fulfil the Head Coach position for each of the women’s and men’s Pirates and Pirates 2 teams.

This EOI will close Sunday evening, 8 August 2021.

Applicants should read the Head Coach Position Description before applying for the role.

This application is to identify candidates who can fulfil support roles for each of the women’s and men’s Pirates and Pirates 2 teams.

This EOI will remain open however roles such as assistant coach or team manager will be considered based on application recieved before Sunday 15 August 2021.

SUPPORT STAFF application 



The Board of Management of Volleyball Queensland has resolved to create a new board sub-committee dedicated to the Pirates Volleyball program. The newly created sub-committee will be called the Volleyball Queensland Pirates Volleyball Committee (QPVC).
