The VQ Schools Sub-Committee Wants You

Volleyball Queensland (VQ) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from members of the volleyball community who would like to help shape the future direction of school volleyball opportunities in Queensland.

The Volleyball Queensland Schools Sub-Committee (VQSSC), is one of four sub-committees under VQ’s Board of Management that provides advice, feedback, and proposed improvements across its wide variety of competitions and activities.

The VQSSC focuses on by six key areas:

  1. VQ Schools Cup
  2. QAS relationship with schools
  3. Representative parallel operations (VQ-QSV)
  4. AVSC feedback and change proposals
  5. QSV region support for event rotation, e.g. new facilities
  6. Facility developments – volleyball infrastructure and access

Following the guidance of VQ’s Board of Management, the 2018/19 priorities for the VQSSC have been identified as:

  1. VQ Beach Schools Cup location review
  2.  VQ Champion Overall School – review current system
  3. Year 8 Honours introduction at AVSC 2018
  4. Honours’ school year transition by 2020
  5. ABVSC 2019 proposal

Jon Gibbs, VQ’s General Manager, said, “the VQ Schools Sub-Committee provides a vital forum on all issues relating volleyball and beach volleyball in Queensland schools, and is an important mechanism in ensuring the volleyball opportunities provided to schools are inclusive, successful, and headed for growth.” He continued, “this sub-committee is central to the development of school volleyball regardless of whether these activities are run by VQ, QAS Volleyball, Volleyball Australia, Queensland Schools Volleyball, or Schools Sports Australia”.

The re-vamped VQSSC may comprise teachers, coaches, referees, volleyball clubs, and community members. It will be resourced by a VQ staff member and at least one VQ Board member will typically participate. Quarterly meetings will be held on a weekday, after school hours, at a central location based on committee membership. Regional applicants are also welcome to apply and participate via Skype of telephone.

All interested parties are welcome to submit their EOI nomination online . Submissions have been extended and are now due by 10am, Monday, 18 June 2018.
